Government Orders Indian OTT Platforms To Take Down All Pakistan-Origin Content

Amidst rising political tensions with Pakistan, the government has asked all streamers to take down all Pakistani content in the interest of national security.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, on Thursday (May 8), asked OTTs, media-streaming platforms, and digital intermediaries to take down all Pakistan-origin content with immediate effect.

The Ministry issued an advisory where it asked all the platforms in India to discontinue web series, films, songs, podcasts, and other media content of Pakistani origin, in the interest of national security.

The advisory said, “Several terrorist attacks in India have been established to have cross-border linkages with Pakistan-based state and non-state actors. Recently, on April 22, the terrorist attack in Pahalgam led to the killing of several Indians, one Nepali citizen, and injuries to a number of others".

"In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content... having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect," it further said.

The advisory also emphasized that publishers must avoid content that "affects the sovereignty and integrity of India" or is "detrimental to India's friendly relations with foreign countries."

This move by government comes a day after the Indian army's Operation Sindoor avenged the horrific Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22.

In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Central government also blocked the Instagram accounts of several Pakistani actors in India, including Hania Amir, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Sanam Saeed, Bilal Abbas, Iqra Aziz, Imran Abbas, and Sajal Aly.

On Thursday, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) also called for a complete ban on Pakistani artistes. The cine association condemned Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan's statements in response to India라이브 바카라 Operation Sindoor. It has urged the Indian film industry to stop “blindly supporting these artists under the pretext of art”.
