Cannes 2025: Homebound To Tanvi The Great- Indian Films That Are Set To Make Their Mark At The Festival

The 78th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival is set to kick off in just a few hours. This festival provides a global platform for filmmakers across the world to showcase a wide range of films which are either screened or compete in the festival. Like last year, this year too, India is ready to leave its mark on the canvas of the prestigious film festival. Have a look at the Indian films which will be screened at Cannes 2025.

Indian films to be screened at Cannes 2025

Homebound

Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan's sophomore film Homebound will be screened in Un Certain Regard section at Cannes 2025. It stars Ishan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in key roles. The leading actors, will reportedly attend the movie premiere.

Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has boarded Homebound, as the executive producer. 

Homebound is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra and co-produced by Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier.

Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest)

Filmmaker Satyajit Ray's 1970 film Aranyer Din Ratri, starring Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore, will also be screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, under the Classics section, in a 4K restored version.

The 4K restoration was completed using the original camera and sound negative preserved by producer Purnima Dutta.

The premiere of Aranyer Din Ratri will be presented by renowned American filmmaker Wes Anderson, who is a long-time admirer of Satyajit Ray.

Dutta, Sharmila, Margaret Bodde, executive director of The Film Foundation, and  Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) founder Shivendra Singh Dungarpur will attend the screening.

A Doll Made Up Of Clay

Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) production, A Doll Made Up of Clay, will also be presented at Cannes 2025. It has been written and directed by SRFTI student Kokob Gebrehaweria Tesfay, who is a student from Ethiopia. The 23-minute film is selected for the La Cinef section, which celebrates student filmmakers from around the world and it's the only Indian entry in this category.

Tesfay said, "This deeply personal story speaks about the journey of dreamers who navigate new challenges, reshaping who they are. Cannes celebrates resilience and untold stories."

Tanvi The Great

Anupam Kher has donned director's hat with Tanvi: The Great, which will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Market (Marché du Film).

The makers shared on social media, “WORLD PREMIERE! Global actor @anupampkher라이브 바카라 directorial venture TANVI THE GREAT ready to shine on the world stage! Making its screening debut at the @mdf_cannes, this is more than a moment; it라이브 바카라 the beginning of a global journey.”

The film is said to be an emotional and inspiring journey with a meaningful story. 

Charak-(Fear of Faith)

Sudipto Sen라이브 바카라 Charak's narrative is rooted in Bengal라이브 바카라 ancient Charak Puja ritual and is about blind faith. The film highlights the rituals of child sacrifice and the occult practices in the festival. The main theme of the film is the clash between faith and humanity- it's a social commentary- making it a potential breakout at this year's Cannes festival.

Charak is directed by Sheiladitya Moulik.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will run from May 13 to May 24, 2025. Several Bollywood celebs including Alia Bhatt and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will grace the red carpet.
