Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar passed away on April 4, at the age of 87. His ashes were immersed in the Ganges, on Saturday (April 12) morning at Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar, as per a report in ANI. The ritual was attended by his family.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar passed away on April 4, at the age of 87. His ashes were immersed in the Ganges, on Saturday (April 12) morning at Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar, as per a report in ANI. The ritual was attended by his family.
The immersion of the ashes was held at the Brahma Kund, and was carried out with full Vedic rites, and chants.
In a video shared by ANI, Manoj Kumar's sons, Kunal and Vishal Goswami, along with other relatives, were seen doing the ritual led by the family's priest.
While speaking about the ceremony, Kunal Goswami, said, "The ashes have been immersed in the Ganges, and we pray for the peace of his soul through the blessings of Mother Ganga.''
The entire nation mourned the loss of Manoj Kumar, who was fondly called 'Bharat Kumar'. His last rites took place on April 5, at Pawan Hans crematorium, Mumbai.
Before the cremation, his mortal remains were wrapped in tricolor and was laid to rest with state honours.
Several celebs from the film fraternity including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Prem Chopra, Salim Khan, Anu Malik, and Rajpal Yadav, among others, attended the last rites of the Padma Shri awardee.
Though Manoj Kumar worked in movies of different genres, he was best known for his roles in patriotic films including Shaheed, Upkar, Kranti, Purab Aur Pachhim, and Roti Kapda Aur Makan.
He also starred in several other movies like Himalay Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Woh Kaun Thi?, Hariyali Aur Raasta, and Patthar Ke Sanam, to name a few.
Apart from being a noteworthy actor, Mr Kumar was also a great director and producer. He made his directorial debut with Upkar and won the National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film in 1967. Purab Aur Paschim and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, are his other directorial hits.
