Ode To Love In Politics| Poem

The following poem from Ipsa Satakshi's book in Hindi, Ishq aur Sangharsh (Love and Conflict) is an ode to her partner and independent journalist Rupesh Kumar Singh, imprisoned since July 2022 on multiple charges, from allegedly carrying out Maoist operations against the state to the funding of the Maoist movement. Singh, along with Satakshi and her sister, were reported to have been snooped on by the government through the Pegasus spyware. On 11 April 2025, Singh completed 1000 days of incarceration, without a bail

Written on 8 February 2024, after the monthly visit to meet Rupesh Kumar Singh at Shaheed Jubba Sahni Central Jail, Bhagalpur, Bihar.

On the very first day

of the week declared for love,

to be able to meet your beloved —

to see that sweet smile,

even from a distance of seven feet —

still brings peace,

brings a calm relief:

that all is well.

His face isn’t fully clear,

for he stands in a dimly lit room

while we stand in dazzling sunlight.

And yet,

believe me,

despite all this,

his resonant voice

brings a calm certainty —

that all is well.

And truly,

you come to know everything —

even through the barriers:

the well-being,

and the strained effort

to show that all is fine.

The enemies of love,

the merchants of hate,

may try to tighten their guard,

because that is all they know how to do.

But know this —

love has never cared

for confinement or distance,

and it never will.

History knows:

Love is free,

fearless,

and will always remain so —

able to come and go

with more strength

than the wind,

the sun,

or the water.

प्यार के लिए घोषित सप्ताह के पहले ही दिन

मिल पाना अपने प्यार से

देख पाना

उसकी प्यारी मुस्कुराहट,

सात फीट की दूरी के साथ ही सही।

पर दे जाता है सुकून

कि, सब ठीक तो है।

नहीं दिख पाता है चेहरा

पूरा साफ,

क्योंकि सात फीट की दूरी के साथ

वह खड़ा है,

एक मध्यम रौशनी वाले कमरे में

और हम खड़े हैं,

धूप की चमचमाती रौशनी में

पर, यकीन मानिए

इन सबके बावजूद भी

मिल जाती है तसल्ली,

उसकी खनकती आवाज से

कि सब ठीक है।

महीन, चौड़ी कुछ जालियों को

ल��ंघकर

अपने प्यार की खैरियत

जान लेने की हिम्मत

होती है प्यार में।

और सच जानिए,

तो सबकुछ पता चल जाता है

जालियों के पार से भी,

खैरियत भी, और सब ठीक है

दिखाने की जबरन कोशिश भी

प्यार के दुश्मन और नफरत के सौदागर

शायद और भी पहरे लगा दें

क्योंकि यही उनकी औकात है

पर, जान लिजिए

प्यार को न कभी कैद और दूरी की परवाह रही है

न रहेगी।

इतिहास जानता है कि

प्यार मुक्त है, हिम्मती है, और रहेगा

कहीं भी आ जा पाने में 'समर्थ'

हवा, सूरज, पानी से भी ज्यादा 'समर्थ'।
