Biography:
The actress Marilyn Monroe originally named Norma Jeane Mortenson spent her birth in Los Angeles California. Her beginning years were troubled because her mother spent many periods in mental facilities. She lived in numerous foster care facilities together with the orphanage during most of her childhood. When born at sixteen years old she tied the knot with James Dougherty. The shooting of World War II brought her to employment in a factory which instigated her discovery by photographers to begin her journey as a pin-up model. The success of her modeling work enabled 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures to sign her to short-term film agreements. During 1946 she chose Marilyn Monroe as her stage name while in 1951 she extended her film agreement with Fox until 1955. Marilyn Monroe reached rapid fame through her roles in comedy movies including "As Young as You Feel," "Monkey Business" followed by dramatic roles in "Clash by Night" and "Don't Bother to Knock." Marilyn maintained her ascent in Hollywood by acting in "Niagara," "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "How to Marry a Millionaire" during 1953 which established her as a well-known film star and sexual icon. Monroe released several successful films after "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" including "The Seven Year Itch" (1955), "Bus Stop" (1956), "The Prince and the Showgirl" (1957) and "Some Like It Hot" (1959). Although she achieved fame through success she repeatedly faced health problems that kept her away from her work commitments during filming. This vibrant and talented woman against drug addiction ended her life at only 36 years old through an overdose in 1962.
