Biography:
Theodore Scott Glenn, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an American actor known for his versatility and compelling performances in film and television. He grew up in Appalachia, and his early life was marked by health challenges, including a severe bout of scarlet fever that left him bedridden for a year. Doctors initially predicted he would have a permanent limp, but he overcame this through intense physical training. He has Irish and Native American ancestry. Glenn attended William & Mary College, where he majored in English, graduating in 1961.
Before pursuing acting, Glenn served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He briefly worked as a reporter for the Kenosha Evening News in Wisconsin. Glenn's initial ambition was to become an author but he found his strength was in dialogue, leading him to acting. He began his acting career in the mid-1960s, appearing in theater productions.
After moving to New York City in 1966, he studied acting with George Morrison and joined The Actors Studio in 1968. He worked in various theater productions and television, making his film debut in 1970 in The Baby Maker. He spent several years working in Los Angeles before growing tired of Hollywood and moving his family to Idaho. He worked as a barman, huntsman, and mountain ranger before returning to acting. His role in Urban Cowboy (1980) brought him significant recognition and helped propel his career.
