Gunner is a 2024 action thriller film directed by Dimitri Logothetis and written by Gary Scott Thompson. In an attempt to reconnect with them, he plans a camping trip along with his best friend, Jon.
During the trip, they notice that the local creek has dried up, leading them to discover a hidden pipeline that directs water to a nearby factory. Gunner believes using Ryker as leverage will help him track down his sons. But as the plot unfolds, it quickly becomes clear that things are not as thrilling as they sound on paper.
The heart of the story is about family and redemption — a father willing to go to any lengths to save his sons. Unfortunately, these emotional themes never fully land because of poor writing. The film tries to emulate classics like Rambo or Taken, but it offers nothing new or exciting. The plot is predictable, the twists are obvious, and the emotional moments feel forced.
Themes of courage and determination are present, but they’re overshadowed by the film's flaws. Even the father-son relationship, which should be the emotional core of the movie, feels hollow due to weak character development.

The use of CGI, especially during a parachute scene, is embarrassingly bad — it looks like something from a low-budget video game.
