Hafeez Saeed, founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and UN-designated terrorist, seeks to overturn multiple prison sentences amid reports he may no longer be in custody
Hafiz Saeed, the chief of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawah and the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has moved a Pakistani court to challenge his conviction in several terror financing cases, a court official from Lahore told PTI on Thursday.
PTI quoted official staying that Saeed, along with other JuD leaders, has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking to overturn their convictions.
A two-judge bench, comprising Justices Shahbaz Rizvi and Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, has been assigned to hear the case. The date for the hearing will be announced later as told to PTI.
Saeed, who has been designated a terrorist by the UN and carries a $10 million bounty from the US, was arrested in July 2019 and has been held in Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore. He was sentenced to multiple years in prison for terror financing. However, some unconfirmed reports suggest he may not be in jail but instead living in a protected location.
Saeed is also the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the group behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.
