Canada Elections 2025: Over 7.3 Million Ballots Cast As Canadians Set New Record For Early Voting

Ahead of the elections next week, advance polling stations were open across Canada for four days over the long Easter weekend.

With Canada gearing up for its federal elections on April 28, Canadians have set a new record during early voting. As per Elections Canada, over seven million ballots were cast, setting a new record.

Ahead of the elections next week, advance polling stations were open across Canada for four days over the long Easter weekend.

As per the official statement from Elections Canada, the organisation which conducts the federal elections, a total of 7.3 million Canadians cast their ballots. The number of voters saw a 25 percent increase from the previous elections in 2021.

The polling body further added that mail-in voting also reached an all-time high with 754,000 returning special ballots. In 2021, this number stood at 660,000.

With Canada Elections just days away, the North American country finds itself locked in a trade war with the United States.

This trade row with the US, which comes after US President Donald Trump's tariff hikes and jibes to make Canada the 51st state of the US, will be a key factor as Canadians head to the polls.

Opinion Polls Project Lead For Liberals

As per opinion polls, the Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, have a five-point lead over the Conservatives led by Pierre Poilievre.

As per the latest polls, Carney's Liberals are in the lead with 42.7 percent of support.

Pierre Poilievre lags behind at 38.3 percent of the vote and NDP's Jagmeet Singh stands at 8.4 percent.

Canada is heading to the polls for a snap election, which was called by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as he stepped down from the post.

With the call for snap elections, Trudeau marked the end of his 10 years tenure as the Prime Minister of Canada.
