The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia returned to the country from London on Tuesday where she received further medical treatment.

The now 79-year-old three-time prime minister of Bangladesh arrived in the country at a critical time, amid fresh demands for elections in the country. Bangladesh has been led by an interim government by Muhammad Yunus since the student uprisal last year that overthrew the government.

“In the current situation of the country, Khaleda Zia's presence and homecoming is a very important matter for people. We believe our leader라이브 바카라 presence and return will make it easier to restore democracy,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.

Zia and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have alternately ruled the country since 1991.

She suffered from liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, heart problems, diabetes, and arthritis, The Hindu reported. She served as the PM from March 1991 to March 1996, then for a month from February 1996 to March 1996 and again from June 2001 to October 2006.

Fakhrul received Zia at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8:30 AM to receive Zia. They landed at 10:42 AM local time, Dhaka Tribune reported. Thousands gathered to welcome Zia back in the country.

She went to the United Kingdom on January 8 this year, where she got admitted at The London Clinic, according to media reports. She then moved to her eldest son Tarique Rahman라이브 바카라 home, where she has received the rest of the treatment after being discharged.

She came back to Bangladesh on May 6, travelling through a Qatari royal air ambulance which carried Khaleda with her two daughters-in-laws, Dhaka Tribune reported.

“She went abroad for treatment after years of suffering under fascist oppression. With the fall of fascism, she was finally able to receive proper medical care. After nearly four months of treatment, she is returning home today. It's a matter of great joy for us and the people,” Fakhrul said.

Cases against Khaleda Zia

In March this year, Bangladesh라이브 바카라 apex court sustained a High Court라이브 바카라 ruling acquitting Zia in a corruption case. She was sentenced to seven years in prison and a Taka 1 million fine by a lower court.

She was convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case in 2018 by a Dhaka court, PTI reported.

Zia is now acquitted in both the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust cases, PTI reported.

Zia was in the Old Dhaka Central Jail on February 8, 2018, post the Dhaka court order that sentenced her in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.

The Awami League government temporarily released Zia from jail after 776 days during the COVID-19 pandemic through an executive order, suspending her sentence on March 25, 2020, putting her under regulations to not leave her residence or the country.

Zia was freed by an order of the President Mohammed Shahabuddin after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled Bangladesh.

What happened in Bangladesh last year?

Bangladesh underwent a regime change in July last year after a series of student protests turned violent - causing multiple casualties. The students demanded to remove the war heroes quota from the government job system.

Sheikh Hasina resigned from the Prime Minister designation on August 5 and fled to India amid growing unrest. Hasina has been in New Delhi since.

By the middle of August, ex-premier Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party held sit-in programmes across the country, demanding the arrest and trial of Awami League leader Hasina and her accomplices over the violence in the country.
