Earthquake Updates: 95 Dead,130 Injured After 7.1 Quake Jolts Tibet; 6.0 Magnitude Quake Hits Japan

• A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck near one of Tibet라이브 바카라 holiest cities on Tuesday, killing at least 95 people and injuring 130 others.

• Tremors also shook buildings and forced people to run to the streets in neighbouring Nepal. Some parts of India as well felt the tremors on Tuesday.

• The epicentre is located 90 km North-East of Lobutse in the Khumbu Himalayan range of North-East Nepal. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, according to a report issued by the China Earthquake Networks Centre, state-run Xinhua reported.

• Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out rescue efforts to carry out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.

• Approximately 22,000 disaster relief items have been dispatched by central authorities to the quake-hit area.

• Over 1,500 local firefighters and rescue workers have also been dispatched to the ground.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck Tibet in the early hours on Tuesday. The epicentre of the earthquake, as per the United States Geological Survey was close to the Nepalese border.

As per the latest data, Chinese state agency Xinhua has stated that 32 people have been killed and 38 are injured due to the earthquake today.

The earthquake affected the neighbouring countries of India, Nepal, and Bangladesh with tremors and possible aftershocks. As per reports, tremors were felt in several parts of India such as the NCR region, Bihar, Assam and West Bengal.

As per the data released by the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 6:35 AM in Xizang, Tibet, which is very close to the border with Nepal.

As per the latest data from Chinese news agency Xinhua, 53 people have been reported dead till now in Tibet after today's earthquake. So far, 62 people are reported injured.

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake killed at least 53 people and injured 62 in the city of Xigaze in Tibet on Tuesday with tremors also felt in Nepal forcing people to run out of their houses. According to regional disaster relief headquarters, the quake jolted Dingri County in Xigaze in Tibet Autonomous Region in China at 9:05 am Tuesday (Beijing Time).

Fifty-three people have been confirmed dead, and 62 others injured as of Tuesday noon, state-run Xinhua reported.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Earthquake Centre of India put the magnitude to 7.1 saying the epicentre is located at China라이브 바카라 Xizang of Tingri county, located 90 km North-East of Lobutse in the Khumbu Himalayan range of North-East Nepal.

However, China recorded the magnitude as 6.8. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, according to a report issued by the China Earthquake Networks Centre, state-run Xinhua reported.

In Nepal's Kathmandu, the strong earthquake forced people to run out of their houses. It was felt in Kavrepalanchwok, Sindhupalanchok Dhading and Solukhumbu districts as well.

Many people came out of their houses due to panic in Kathmandu. People witnessed the trees and electric wires on the streets shaking for some time.

At least half a dozen tremors with magnitude ranging from 4 to 5 were also recorded within a time span of an hour around 7 am, according to the USGS report.

The tremor was strong enough to terrorise people in Nepal, who recalled the 2015 great earthquake that killed 9,000 people.

However, a Nepal Police spokesperson says that so far they have not received any information regarding any major physical damage or human causality.

As the epicentre lies in Tibet stronger tremors were felt by people living in Northern Nepal, Nepal Police spokesperson Bishwo Adhikari said.

Several places in Bihar were jolted by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck near the Tibet-Nepal border on Tuesday morning, an official said.

The quake with its epicentre 93 km northeast of Lobuche, near the Nepal-Tibet border, occurred at 6.35 am.

The earthquake, centred at a depth of 10 kilometres, caused tremors in Bihar and several parts of north India, the official said.

There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property in Bihar, he said.

According to the Bihar Disaster Management Department, tremors were felt in Patna, Madhubani, Sheohar, Munger, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Katihar, Darbhanga, West Champaran, East Champaran and several other districts along the India-Nepal border.

The tremors triggered panic among people in Patna with citizens rushing out of their residences as a precautionary measure.

People in Katihar, Purnea, Sheohar, Darbhanga and Samastipur also came out on the streets when the quake took place.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out rescue efforts to save lives and minimise casualties after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Xizang in Tibet on Tuesday.

The Chinese leader also ordered utmost efforts to treat the injured and urged efforts prevent secondary disasters.

Following the massive earthquake in Tibet, rescue operations have been deployed across the region. Over 50 people have been killed due to the aftermath of the jolt.

State news agency CGTN reported that the death toll in Tibet has reached 95 after a deadly earthquake of magnitude 7.1 hit the region.

After Tibet, Nepal and India, an earthquake of Magnitude 6.0 hit Japan as well. Tremors were felt in Japan's Torishima island region, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported

According to the Associated Press, some 22,000 disaster relief items, including cotton tents, cotton coats, quilts and folding beds, together with special relief materials for high-altitude and frigid areas, have been dispatched by central authorities to the quake-hit area.

Over 1,500 local firefighters and rescue workers have also been dispatched to the ground.

The Tibetan plateau is known to be prone to heavy earthquakes as it sits right over the place where the tectonic Eurasian and Indian plates meet, often colliding with huge force.

China's Shigaste region also suffered significant damage in the massive 8.1-magnitude quake that devastated Nepal in 2015. Eighteen people were killed and 55 injured in Shigaste when a massive 8.1-magnitude quake hit Nepal and the wider Himalayan in 2015.

China has closed for tourists the scenic areas of its side of Mt Everest, also known as Mount Qomolangma, following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that jolted Dingri County in the Tibet Autonomous Region on Tuesday.

The hotel buildings and surrounding areas in the scenic area have remained intact, state-run Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Dingri Culture and Tourism Bureau.

According to China's state media platform CGTN, authorities have deployed a Y-20 aircraft to assist in Xizang earthquake relief.

Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on Tuesday expressed profound sadness over the loss of lives in a devastating earthquake in Dingri County of Tibet.

According to the official site of Central Tibetan Administration, the Dalai Lama said he is "deeply saddened" to learn of the devastating earthquake that struck Dingri in Tibet and the surrounding regions this morning.

"It has resulted in the tragic loss of many lives, numerous injuries, and extensive destruction to homes and property," he said in a message.

"I offer my prayers for those who have lost their lives and extend my wishes for a swift recovery to all who have been injured," he added.
