Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been accused of illegally acquiring a jewelry set gifted to them by Saudi authorities during a visit in May 2021. The set, consisting of a ring, necklace, bracelet, and earrings, was valued at approximately PKR 75.7 million (around $270,000). The couple allegedly undervalued the jewelry set, paying a lower sum for its retention and thereby causing a loss of PKR 32.9 million to the national treasury.
An anti-terrorism Pakistani court on Tuesday extended the interim bail of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi until January 7 in the second Toshakhana case — also referred to as Toshakhana 2.0, according to Dawn. The case has been filled due to the alleged violations of the state gift repository (Toshakhana) rules during Khan라이브 바카라 tenure as prime minister.
The couple has been accused of illegally acquiring a jewelry set gifted to them by Saudi authorities during a visit in May 2021. The set, consisting of a ring, necklace, bracelet, and earrings, was valued at approximately PKR 75.7 million (around $270,000). The couple allegedly undervalued the jewellery set, paying a lower sum for its retention and thereby causing a loss of PKR 32.9 million to the national treasury.
Additionally, Bushra Bibi is accused of retaining gold, diamond rings, earrings, and a bracelet without submitting them to Toshakhana for price calculation, as required by law.
The bail hearing was conducted at the Islamabad District and Sessions Court by Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Mujoka, where lawyers for the accused presented their arguments. After the proceedings, the court extended interim bail for both Khan and Bibi and adjourned the case until January 7.
Earlier last week, a trial court had indicted the couple, with Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand reading out the charge sheet. The prosecution, led by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), is set to present its first four witnesses from a list of 28 on December 18.
However, despite the bail, the former PM remained incarcerated in connection with multiple cases since his government was ousted through a no-confidence vote in April 2022. Bushra Bibi, however, was released on bail in October.
The Toshakhana 2.0 case is one of the numerous legal battles Khan is currently facing, as he deals with multiple charges hampering his political career.
