The UN General has called for maximum restraint amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called for "maximum restraint and stepping back from the brink" while voicing his concern over tensions between India and Pakistan being "at their highest in years," according to PTI.
In a statement, Guterres asserted that, ""Make no mistake: A military solution is no solution."
"The United Nations stands ready to support any initiative that promotes de-escalation, diplomacy, and a renewed commitment to peace," he added further.
He claimed that it pains him to see the relations reaching a boiling point. The remarks came before closed consultations of the UN Security Council on India-Pakistan tensions after Islamabad sought an emergency meeting.
The request has come amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan due to the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22 claiming the lives of 26 individuals.
