The agreement between the US and Ukraine, which was announced in a joint statement came two weeks after the public spat between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
The United States has announced it will resume its military aid to Ukraine after Kyiv accepted its 30-day ceasefire proposal. This development comes after Ukraine launched one of the biggest drone attacks on Moscow, shortly before the high level talks with the US at Saudi Arabia.

However, shortly after the US and Ukraine released this statement, Russia launched retaliatory attacks in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
"Today, we've made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a ceasefire and into immediate negotiations to end this conflict in a way that's enduring and sustainable," US Secretary of States Marco Rubio was quoted as saying by reporters.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, President Trump stated that the agreement calls for a "total ceasefire."
"Ukraine has agreed to it. And hopefully, Russia will agree to it," Said Trump as special envoy Steve Witkoff prepares to travel to Moscow to propose the ceasefire agreement to Vladimir Putin.
"We’re going to meet with them [the Russians] later on today and tomorrow and hopefully we’ll be able to [work] out a deal. I think the ceasefire is very important. If we can get Russia to do it, that’ll be great. If we can’t we just keep going on and people are gonna get killed, lots of people," said Trump.
A similar sentiment was echoed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that that "ball is now in Russia's court."
While more details are awaited regarding the ceasefire, reports have stated that this agreement calls for a total ceasefire, and not just the aerial and maritime ceasefire that the Ukrainians initially proposed.
Hours after Ukraine's agreement to the ceasefire was declared, fresh Russian attacks were reported in the capital of Kyiv and Kharkiv.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that air defences were engaged in repelling the strikes. Citing the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, state news agency RIA also reported on the Kharkiv strikes and stated that air raid alerts were issued in ten regions across Kyiv.
These attacks from Russia come after Moscow stated it downed around 300 drones on Tuesday, in what was the largest Ukrainian attack on Russia since the war escalated in 2022.
