A day after a hard-fought ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon라이브 바카라 Hezbollah militants came into effect, raising cautious optimism for a region long on edge, militant group Hezbollah said that it will continue its resistance and support Palestinians. The group said that its fighters would continue to monitor the withdrawal of Israeli forces beyond the Lebanese borders “with their hand on the trigger,” Reuter reported.
Under the terms of the US-brokered truce announced on Tuesday, Hezbollah is required to pull back its forces from southern Lebanon, while Israeli troops are to retreat to their side of the border. The ceasefire is slated to last for at least two months.
However, the truce does not address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the conflict remains at a stalemate, with Hamas holding hostages and continuing its fight against Israel.
While the ceasefire has been officially announced, Hezbollah has made it clear that its resistance efforts will continue. In a statement issued Wednesday, the group affirmed its commitment to supporting Palestinians, including fighters. According to a Reuters report, the statement did not directly reference the ceasefire but emphasized that Hezbollah's fighters would remain vigilant, ready to act in the event of any Israeli aggression. The agreement outlines that Israeli forces must fully withdraw from southern Lebanon within 60 days.
People of Lebanon return home after ceasefire
Thousands of Lebanese people displaced by the war returned to their homes on Wednesday after the ceasefire took hold between Israel and Hezbollah. People were seen driving cars stacked with their belongings and defying warnings from Lebanese and Israeli troops to avoid some areas, AP reported.
According to The Guardian, the Lebanese military asked them to avoid the towns and villages which have been engaged in the frontline near the UN-drawn “blue line."
Meanwhile, in Gaza, Israeli forces have detained dozens of Palestinian men as they carried out evacuations from the besieged northern town of Beit Lahiya. Hundreds of civilians fled the area, many seeking shelter in Gaza City after enduring more than 50 days of siege. As they approached Israeli lines, Israeli forces separated men from women and children, facilitating their movement while detaining male civilians for questioning. The ongoing Israeli military operations have created a dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, with food, water, and medicine in short supply. “We left, and here we are sitting, with no shelter or food, and we do not know where to go,” news agency AP quoted Umm Saleh al-Adham, a woman who fled Beit Lahiya.
US President Joe Biden, after successfully mediating the Lebanon ceasefire, has asserted that the US will make another push with regional powers for a ceasefire in Gaza. This will involve the release of hostages and the removal of Hamas from power.
“Over the coming days, the United States will make another push with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and others to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza with the hostages released and an end to the war without Hamas in power,” Biden wrote on X.
Egypt and Qatar have been engaged in discussions to extend the truce efforts beyond Lebanon and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Following the announcement of the Lebanon ceasefire, Qatar라이브 바카라 Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed hope that the truce would serve as a catalyst for a broader peace process. His remarks were echoed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who emphasized the tireless diplomatic efforts by both nations to secure a ceasefire that would halt the bloodshed in Gaza.
“We discussed the truce agreement in Lebanon. And we express our hope that this agreement will result in a real ceasefire, and also that its effect will extend to the Gaza Strip – ending this human suffering as soon as possible,” Al Jazeera quoted Qatar라이브 바카라 prime minister speaking at a joint news conference in Egypt라이브 바카라 New Administrative Capital in the Cairo governorate.
