The BJP-led Delhi government is set to table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports detailing the performance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the Delhi Assembly today. The move comes after months of anticipation and controversy over the delayed presentation of these reports.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had announced last Thursday that the reports would be made public in the first session under the new government. The BJP claims that the AAP government, which was in power for a decade, had deliberately withheld the audits to suppress findings that could potentially reveal mismanagement of public funds.
These CAG audits cover a range of key government programmes and initiatives, including state finances, public health infrastructure, vehicular air pollution, liquor regulation, and the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation.
One of the major points of scrutiny is the renovation of the Chief Minister라이브 바카라 official residence, famously dubbed ‘Sheesh Mahal’ by the BJP. The audit has reportedly uncovered large-scale irregularities in the project라이브 바카라 planning, tendering and execution. Initially sanctioned at Rs 7.61 crore in 2020, the cost escalated to Rs 33.66 crore by April 2022 — an increase of 342 per cent. The BJP and the Congress have used these findings to target former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging misuse of public funds, the PTI report stated.
The oldest of the 14 reports, the State Finances Audit for the year ending March 2022, has been pending for over 500 days. Other reports include audits of various sectors like health, pollution, and public services. One of the notable reports is on the “Prevention and Mitigation of Vehicular Air Pollution in Delhi,” which flags serious concerns about air quality monitoring, faulty Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), and missing funds for parking infrastructure, Mint reported.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had previously criticised the AAP government for not disclosing the CAG reports and had called for a special assembly session in December 2024, which ultimately did not materialise.
Another major point that is scrutinised in the report is the audit of the AAP government라이브 바카라 flagship Mohalla Clinics initiative, which was launched to provide affordable healthcare. According to the audit, between 2016 and 2023, the Directorate General Health Services (DGHS) underperformed, spending only 28 per cent of its allocated budget for the construction of Mohalla Clinics, according to the India Today report. While the department had a target of setting up 1,000 clinics by 2017, only 523 were operational by March 2023, with many clinics facing issues such as staff resignations and lack of basic medical equipment.
Furthermore, inspections were alarmingly insufficient, with only 2 percent of clinics inspected over a span of five years. The audit also highlighted deficiencies in patient care, with many receiving consultations lasting less than a minute, said India Today in its report.
