BJP West Bengal alleged that during a Ram Navami procession, devotees were attacked in Kolkata's Park Circus Seven Point area. However, Kolkata police has denied the allegations, stating that no Ram Navami procession occurred in the Park Circus area.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday alleged that during a Ram Navami procession, devotees were attacked and their vehicles vandalised in Kolkata's Park Circus Seven Point area. The BJP targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the incident, labelling it as targeted violence. However, Kolkata police has denied the allegations, stating that no Ram Navami procession occurred in the Park Circus area.
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar claimed that Hindu devotees were "savagely attacked" in the Park Circus Seven Point area as the Ram Navami procession was returning.
He alleged, "Stones rained down on vehicles just for carrying saffron flags. Windshields shattered. Chaos unleashed. This wasn’t random—it was targeted violence. And where was the police? Right there. Watching. Silent. Spineless."
The BJP West Bengal shared a video of the alleged incident on platform X, claiming Kolkata Police had taken no action.
The party tweeted, "Mamata Banerjee라이브 바카라 long-standing wish seems to have come true. In the heart of Kolkata—at Park Circus—vehicles belonging to Ram Navami devotees were attacked and vandalised during a religious procession."
In response, Kolkata Police stated that they had not granted permission for any rally in the area and clarified that no Ram Navami procession occurred in the Park Circus area.
"With reference to an alleged incident at Park Circus, it is clarified that no permission was taken for any procession, nor did any such movement occur in the area. Upon receiving information about damage to a vehicle, police intervened promptly to restore order. A case is being registered to investigate the matter. Public is advised not to heed any rumours," Kolkata Police tweeted.
The BJP organised Ram Navami celebrations across West Bengal on Sunday, with senior leaders heading rallies at multiple locations. According to police officials, all Ram Navami processions across the state remained largely peaceful.
