‘Cancer Is Consuming Its Body Politic’: S Jaishankar Slams Pakistan

The Indian External Affairs Minister said that India must up its internal growth as well as de-risk its external exposure.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has again criticised Pakistan, describing the country as a "cancer" that is now affecting its own political system. Speaking at the 19th Nani A.P. Palkhivala Memorial Lecture in Mumbai on Saturday, Jaishankar also outlined India's diplomatic approach over the past decade. "Pakistan is an exception in our neighborhood due to its support for cross-border terrorism. That cancer is now consuming its own body politic. The entire subcontinent shares an interest in Pakistan abandoning this approach," Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar emphasised that India must remain at the forefront of developing critical and emerging technologies. "India may not align with the West, but its strategic interests ensure it is not anti-West," he added.

The foreign minister also addressed the challenge posed by the weaponization of financial institutions, stressing that India must bolster its internal growth while mitigating external risks. He reiterated India's vision of being a friend to all and a reliable global partner while aiming to strengthen relationships and reduce conflicts.He highlighted the importance of engaging with regional players, noting that India has worked to expand its diplomatic footprint by strengthening ties with middle powers.
