Ceasefire Violations Continue Along LoC Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified following the Pahalgam terror attack, with ceasefire violations reported across the Line of Control and diplomatic ties rapidly deteriorating.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following the deadliest attack in Jammu and Kashmir since Pulwama, with Pakistani forces continuing to breach ceasefire agreements and resorting to firing across the Line of Control (LoC) for the fourth consecutive night, Indian Army officials said in a press statement on Monday.

According to the statement, Pakistan Army posts initiated small arms fire on the night of April 27–28 in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Indian troops responded “swiftly and effectively,” the statement said. This marked the first reported ceasefire violation in the Poonch sector since tensions began escalating earlier this week.

There were no reports of any casualties, according to PTI.

The military exchanges come days after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed in what security agencies have called the worst terrorist assault in the region since 2019. Indian intelligence agencies have attributed the attack to operatives linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group, though investigations are ongoing.

In response to the attack, the Indian government announced a series of retaliatory measures. Following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, India expelled Pakistani military attachés, suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, and shut down operations at the Attari land transit post. Modi vowed that India would "identify, track, and punish" those responsible for the attack, along with their "backers," according to an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

Pakistan, in turn, suspended bilateral pacts with India, including placing the 1972 Simla Agreement in abeyance, and closed its airspace to Indian carriers, according to a statement from Pakistan라이브 바카라 Foreign Ministry.

Security operations across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified since the Pahalgam attack. Officials said that nine properties linked to suspected militants have been demolished to date, with the latest demolitions reported in Shopian, Pulwama, and Bandipora districts.

The surge in military and political hostility now threatens to unravel the fragile ceasefire understanding brokered between India and Pakistan in February 2021, which had been widely regarded as a rare diplomatic breakthrough at the time. Diplomatic channels between the two countries remain frozen, with both sides hardening their positions amid international concern over renewed instability in the region.
