The central government has restructured the National Security Advisors Board (NSAB) in light of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 individuals. The seven-member board will now be headed by former R&AW chief Alok Joshi.
Centre Reconstitutes National Security Advisory Board
The central government has revamped the National Security Advisors Board appointing former R&AW chief Alok Joshi at its helm.
The board constitutes three retired army officers including former Western Air Commander Air Marshal P.M. Sinha, former Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General A.K. Singh, and Rear Admiral Monty Khanna. It also has two retired officers of the Indian Police Service, Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh along with retired IFS officer B Venkatesh Varma.
The previous board was constituted in 2018 headed by P.S. Raghavan, former Indian ambassador to Russia between 2014-2016.
The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday. In addition to the CCS meeting, the PM also chaired two additional meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
The CCS committee had last convened on April 23 immediately post the Pahalgam attack and had issued strict directive including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan.
PM Modi had also held a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs on Tuesday granted them total operational freedom to ascertain the mode, targets and timing of India라이브 바카라 response.
