Congress MP Shashi Tharoor Takes Dig At 'Dysfunctional' Delhi Airport After Receiving PM Modi In Kerala

The Congress MP's dig came in the backdrop of the recent flight delays in Delhi Airport due to shifting wind patterns and the closure of one runway for upgradation works.

Taking a dig at the Delhi Airport, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday said he "managed to land in time" to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Kerala to commission the Vizhinjam International Seaport today.

Taking it to the microblogging site X, the Congress MP from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram said he was able to receive PM Modi despite the delays at the Delhi airport, which he termed "dysfunctional".

Tharoor posted a photo where he was seen shaking hands with PM Modi in Thiruvananthapuram while Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan looked on.

"Despite delays at the dysfunctional Delhi airport, I managed to land in Thiruvananthapuram in time to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his arrival in my constituency. Looking forward to his officially commissioning Vizhinjam port, a project I have been proud to have been involved with since its inception," he said.

The Congress MP's dig came in the backdrop of the recent flight delays in Delhi Airport due to shifting wind patterns and the closure of one runway for upgradation works.

Taking cognisance of the situation, the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates the airport, reportedly issued an advisory regarding change in wind patterns for Wednesday and not on Thursday.

Recently Tharoor praised the Narendra Modi-led government over a number of issues, including the Ukraine war stance and navigating talks with US President Donald Trump.

In March, Tharoor praised the PM Modi-led government for its Vaccine Maitri initiative, which facilitated the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines to several countries. Furthermore, the he also also praised the outcome of PM Modi's meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House in February, underlining that several major concerns had been addressed.

PM Modi In Kerala To Commission Vizhinjam Port

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday commissioned the Vizhinjam port which has been completed at an estimated cost of 8,867 crore rupees. The Prime Minister was welcomed by Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister of State George Kurian, and Shashi Tharoor at the airport. This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to the state in 2025.

The commissioning of the port is expected to firmly place Kerala on the global maritime map and transform India's role in international trade and shipping.

After the commissioning of the port, the Prime Minister is expected go to Andhra Pradesh and lay the foundation stone and dedicate several development projects worth over 58,000 crore rupees in Amaravati.
