Delhi Reels Under Record Rains, Faces Fresh Storm Warnings and Travel Disruptions

IMD forecasts more rain and thunderstorms after Friday라이브 바카라 historic downpour; flight delays, flooding, and infrastructure strain deepen citywide challenges

After enduring one of the wettest May days on record, Delhi is bracing for another spell of rain and thunderstorms this weekend, raising concerns over flight delays, waterlogging, and urban flooding.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected across Delhi-NCR on Saturday. The wet weather is likely to persist through Tuesday, May 6. On Saturday morning, the minimum temperature dropped to 22.2°C, about 2.5 degrees below the seasonal average, with the day라이브 바카라 maximum predicted to reach around 34°C. Humidity levels at 8:30 am stood at 82%, according to PTI.

The downpour on Friday was no ordinary rain: Delhi recorded 77 mm within just six hours (2:30 am to 8:30 am), making it the second-highest single-day May rainfall since 1901, The Indian Express reported, citing IMD data. Only May 2021 saw a higher one-day total, with 119.3 mm. Meteorologists attributed the intense storm to a rare moisture and wind convergence over northern India, fueled by systems pulling in moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

The impact was devastating. Over 200 flights were delayed or canceled at Delhi라이브 바카라 Indira Gandhi International Airport, stranding passengers, reported NDTV. Tragedy struck in Dwarka, where three children and an adult were killed when a tree, uprooted by high winds, collapsed onto a tubewell room they were sheltering in, according to The Indian Express.

On the ground, the storm exposed the capital라이브 바카라 long-standing drainage and infrastructure weaknesses. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma inspected waterlogged areas like Majnu Ka Tila on Friday. Gupta told The Indian Express that the city라이브 바카라 drainage woes are “a disease inherited from the previous government” and promised that her administration was working to fix the system.

Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board recorded Delhi라이브 바카라 Air Quality Index (AQI) at 152 on Saturday morning, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category, according to PTI.

With fresh rain warnings in place, authorities have advised travelers to check flight updates and residents to exercise caution around flooded areas. Delhi will need to brace for a few more days of turbulent weather before the skies begin to clear.
