In a disturbing incident at Chhatarpur district hospital in Madhya Pradesh, a 70-year-old man was brutally beaten by a doctor last Thursday. An FIR has been registered against the doctor and a show-cause notice has been issued to a senior health official involved.
The situation escalated as the elderly man was then dragged through the hospital grounds and allegedly threatened with confinement in the hospital라이브 바카라 police post.
Video doing rounds on social media showed that the incident, which took place on April 17, was recorded on a bystander라이브 바카라 mobile phone.
Udhav Singh Joshi had brought his sick wife for treatment of a stomach vein disorder. He said they were waiting in line like many others when a doctor suddenly confronted them.
Irritated by the crowd, the doctor - Rajesh Mishra - asked them why they were in the queue, according to Joshi. When he tried to explain, Dr. Mishra allegedly slapped him. Then, the doctor and a senior health official dragged him towards the police outpost inside the hospital premises.
"The doctor kicked me and dragged me to the chowki. He slapped me and broke my glasses. He also tore my slip and threatened to kill me. My wife was also assaulted," Joshi told reporters, adding that he remained in the queue.
Dr GL Ahirwar, civil surgeon at the hospital, said that since the queue was long - Dr Mishra objected when Joshi broke the queue, leading to escalation.
Facing public outrage and undeniable evidence of the incident, the doctor fled the scene. The outrage also forced hospital authorities to take action.
The health department has issued a notice to Mishra seeking a reply within 24 hours. A 'zero FIR' was registered against him at Naugaon police station - later transferred to Chhattarpur's Kotwali police station - under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 115(2), 296, 3(5), 351(3), an official said.
Dr Ahirwar admitted that the incident occurred at the hospital two days ago. "Initially, the doctor claimed the patient behaved indecently. However, the video clearly shows unacceptable and shameful conduct by the doctor. We immediately ordered a departmental inquiry. A notice has been issued, and inquiry committee members are on their way," said Dr Ahirwar to NDTV.
"We have got directions from the administration. Strict action will be taken," he assured.
However, collector Parth Jaiswal issued a show-cause notice to Dr Ahirwar for ignoring his directives which involve submitting a report about the incident, according to PTI.
"Dr Ahirwar has been directed to submit a reply within 24 hours. The collector had constituted a three-member probe committee under the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), which has submitted its report. On the basis of this report, Jaiswal recommended action against the doctor to the health department authorities," PTI quoted Jaiswal saying.
"Following the collector's recommendation, National Health Mission director Saloni Sidana served a notice to Dr Rajesh Mishra, who is a contract doctor of orthopaedics. He must furnish a reply in 24 hours. Collector Jaiswal also recommended termination of State Red Cross Society employee Rajendra Khare in connection with the incident," he added.
