With summer settled in, the Indian Meteorological Department has sounded a heatwave alert across states in India. As per the latest weather forecast, heatwave-like conditions are expected to return over Central and North India for the next five days.

IMD has predicted a heatwave from April 21 to 25 across Central India, which includes states such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha (Maharashtra).

Over in Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, heatwave-like conditions are also anticipated for the remaining week.

In Northwest India, a gradual increase in temperatures is expected by two to three degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in Central India and Gujarat, a rise of two degrees Celsius is expected in the next three days.

In the national capital, the BJP government has called for the installation of 3,000 water coolers in government hospitals for heatstroke wards.

This initiative comes as part of the Delhi Heat Action Plan 2025 launched by CM Rekha Gupta.

"Our mission is to make Delhi heat-resilient, protect lives and make every season livable for its residents," the chief minister said.

However, along with heatwave-like conditions, the IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northeast India until 26 April.

In Himachal Pradesh, a possibility of hailstorms has also been predicted, for which the weather department has called for the use of hail nets and caps to prevent damage.
