JD Vance India Visit: US VP Endorses Modi, Says 'There Is Much That America & India Can Accomplish Together'

• U.S. VP JD Vance, his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri and their three children - Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel - visited the historical Amer Fort in Rajasthan on Tuesday. They received a warm red carpet welcome and were greeted by two elephants.

• Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari welcomed them at the fort. Sharma said it was an honour to welcome JD Vance along with his family.

• After his visit to the fort, JD Vance attended an event where he said that he was amazed by the ancient beauty of the architecture of India's history and by India's laser-like focus on the future.

• He also said that there is pride in being Indian. He also mentioned that the U.S. and India can achieve a lot together, and that the U.S. does more military exercises with India than we do with any other nation on Earth.

• "We believe that American energy can help realize India's nuclear power production goal,” he said, stressing that India-U.S. relationship is detrimental for the future of the 21st century

Vice President JD Vance, who is on a four-day visit to India with his wife Usha Vance and children, arrived in Jaipur on Tuesday for a cultural tour. The family travelled from the Rambagh Palace, where they are staying, to the iconic Amer Fort, where they were greeted with live Rajasthani folk performances and traditionally decorated elephants.

Earlier in Delhi, Vance visited the Central Cottage Industries Emporium, where he explored Indian handicrafts and purchased pottery, papier-mâché items and tea. Showroom GM Meera Somani noted the family's appreciation for Indian artistry. They also visited the Akshardham Temple, where their children wore traditional Indian attire - kurta-pyjamas and Anarkali-style dresses. The family spent about an hour at the temple, with Vice President Vance offering a prayer for world peace.

The fort is well known for its stunning architectural blend of Hindu and Mughal styles, its historical significance as a former capital of the Kachwaha dynasty, and its vibrant cultural heritage, including intricate artwork and popular elephant rides.

The fort also offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Rajput dynasty and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Vance, accompanied by his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri, their three children -- Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel -- departed the luxurious Rambagh Palace Hotel, surrounded by tight security, and reached the UNESCO World Heritage site at around 9.30 am. They received a red carpet welcome.

As they entered the main courtyard -- Jaleb Chowk -- two decorated female elephants named Chanda and Mala greeted them by raising their trunks, an official told PTI.

The family enjoyed a cultural performance featuring folk dances, including Kacchi Ghodi, Ghoomar and Kalbeliya, offering a glimpse into the vibrant culture of Rajasthan.

The Amber Fort Palace was closed to the public from 12 pm on Monday to make preparations for the Vance family's visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed US Vice President JD Vance, his wife Second Lady Usha Vance and their three children to his official residence Monday evening.

Vance is on a personal visit to India and his talks with the Indian Prime Minister before dinner is the only official engagement that the visitor had in Delhi. There is a family wedding in Jaipur.

US Vice President JD Vance met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. During their meeting, the two leaders hailed the progress in Indo-US trade ties.

US Vice President JD Vance is currently on a state visit to India. The Second Family of the United States is in Rajasthan for the second day of their visit.

As per reports, the rest of the itinerary for the Vance family includes a cultural exploration to Ajmer Fort, Jantar Mantar, City Palace, and Hawa Mahal.

Later, the US VP is expected to deliver a speech on Indo-US relations at the Rajasthan International Centre.

After he took office in February 2025, Vance was part of a heated exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump at the White House.

It became controversial when Zelensky questioned the effectiveness of diplomacy with Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing broken ceasefires in the past, and Vance intervened.
