Waqf Bill Row: 2 Senior JD(U) Leaders Resign From Party Over Its Stand On Bill, Say 'Muslims Are Shocked'

Amid the Rajya Sabha session on passing of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, senior JD(U) leaders Mohammed Qasim Ansari, Nawaz Malik on Thursday resigned from the party, criticizing the party's support for the bill. Lok Sabha on the early hours of Thursday passed the bill despite widespread opposition.

In a letter to JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, both of them expressed deep disappointment, saying the party라이브 바카라 stance had shattered the trust of millions of Indian Muslims who believed JD(U) would uphold secular values.

What All Did The JD(U) Leader Say?

According to PTI, the leaders said, "Millions of Indian Muslims like us had unwavering faith in you as a flag bearer of a truly secular ideology. However, that belief has now been shattered. The stand taken by JD(U) on the Waqf Bill Amendment Act 2024 has deeply shocked millions of dedicated Indian Muslims and activists. We are extremely disheartened by the manner in which Lallan Singh delivered his speech and supported this bill in the Lok Sabha."

" I am disheartened that I gave several years of my life to the party," he said in the letter in Hindi", Qasim Ansari said, as per NDTV report.

"I would like to say with due respect that millions of Indian Muslims like us had unwavering faith that you are the flag bearer of a purely secular ideology. But now this belief has been broken. Millions of dedicated Indian Muslims and workers like us are deeply shocked by the stand of JDU..." Qasim Ansari said in the resignation letter to Nitish Kumar.

"... The Waqf Bill is against Indian Muslims. We cannot accept it under any circumstances. This bill violates many fundamental rights of the Constitution. Through this bill, Indian Muslims are being humiliated and insulted... Neither you nor your party realises this. I regret that I gave many years of my life to the party", he added.

Likewise, Malik, who called himself "secretary of JD(U)라이브 바카라 minority cell", alleged in his letter "Muslims and workers like us are shocked by the JD(U)라이브 바카라 stand on Waqf Bill issue".

JD(U) Responds

Expressing dismay over the development, JD(U) national spokesman Rajiv Ranjan Prasad claimed neither Mohammed Qasim Ansari, who hails from East Champaran, nor Jamui resident Nawaz Malik was a part of "our rank and file".

"I wonder what to say about things. I have been associated with the party for long. I say with full responsibility that neither person has been a part of our rank and file", Rajiv Ranjan Prasad told PTI.

He added, "We admit that some genuine members of our party, like national general secretary Ghulam Rasool Baliyawi, are not very happy with the passage of the Bill. Their grievances will be dealt with at the appropriate level. But those who are coming up with the claim of resignation from the party, were never members in the first place".

Notably, Baliyawi and another JD(U) leader Syed Afzal Abbas, who heads the Bihar Shia Waqf Board, had earlier in the day voiced their disappointment with the Bill, claiming that it was passed without heeding many of the suggestions given by Muslim leaders during deliberations with the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

However, both Baliyawi and Abbas stopped short of voicing disapproval of the party라이브 바카라 stance over the issue.

Recently, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board had staged a demonstration in Patna, in a bid to put pressure on Nitish Kumar and junior NDA partners like Chirag Paswan to thwart the contentious legislation.

About The Bill

The objective of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is to redress the issues and challenges concerning regulation and managing of the Waqf properties. Defending the amendment move, the ministry of minority affairs said that the main purpose of the bill is to improve the administration and management of waqf properties in India.

Centre earlier said that the bill seeks bring improvement in the overall administration process of the Waqf properties by means of technology-driven management to ensure transparency.

Alongside introducing modern technology, Centre claimed that the bill also aims to rename the Act, update the definitions of waqf, improve the registration process.

Among the major issues regarding Waqf Board in India are the lack of diversity in the constitution of the board, irrevocability of waqf properties, lack of judicial oversight, misuse of provisions among others.
