Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai on Wednesday took oath as the 52nd Chief Justice of India becoming India라이브 바카라 first Buddhist and second Scheduled caste judge to take over as the head of Indian judiciary. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath under Article 124(2) of the constitution as Justice Gavai took over the position from the outgoing CJI Sanjiv Khanna.

Chief Justice Gavai who is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court will fulfill his duties until his retirement on November 23, 2025. Justice Gavai, who was promoted to the Supreme Court in 2019 has been a part of approximately 700 benches and has arbitrated matters pertaining to constitutional and administrative law, environment law, civil and criminal law, commercial law and education.
He has been a part of several vital benches that adjudicated matters like upholding the abrogation of Article 370 by the Central Government, striking down the electoral bonds scheme and validating the Centre라이브 바카라 2016 demonetisation move, among others.
He has also delivered judgements like granting bail to Aam Aadmi Party Leader Manish Sisodia in the money laundering case and staying Rahul Gandhi라이브 바카라 conviction in the “Modi” surname defamation case.
Justice Gavai joined the bar in 1985 before commencing his practice at the Bombay High Court in 1987. He then served as the Standing Counsel for the Municipal Corporation of Nagpur, Amravati Municipal Corporation, and Amravati University. After serving at several positions, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in 2003 and then went on to become a permanent judge in 2005.
