Kashmir: Five Militants Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In Kulgam

In recent months, there has been a rise in the frequency and intensity of attacks across the valley, with militants targeting both security personnel and civilians.

Five militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Thursday. The security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation at Kadder in the Behibagh area of the district on Wednesday night, following intelligence about the presence of suspected militants.

The Indian Army's Chinar Corps posted on X: “Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops, and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volume of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated."

This comes after at least 11 shoppers were injured last month in a grenade attack on a flea market in Srinagar. One woman later succumbed to her injuries. It was the latest militant attack since a new government took office in mid-October.
