Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not attending the all-party meeting convened to discuss the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Kharge alleged that the government, during the meeting held in Delhi, admitted to lapses in security arrangements.

Addressing reporters, Kharge said, "The first question I raised in the meeting was that when the government convenes a meeting, the Prime Minister should have been present. Since he was not present, we said it was not right." He emphasised that PM Modi's absence suggested he was not taking the matter seriously, especially when "at least 26 people lost their lives and many others sustained injuries."

Kharge pointed out that while leaders from all political parties, including himself and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, were present, the Prime Minister chose instead to address an election rally in poll-bound Bihar. "You go to deliver your election speech in Bihar. If he (Modi) is not attending the meeting then it means that he is not serious about it," Kharge remarked.

He also criticised Modi for not directly addressing the critical issues with the political leadership. "Instead of speaking in Hindi and English, you should have spoken to us about what and how it (terror strike) happened, security lapse, intelligence lapse, or lapse on the part of informants and police. Unfortunately he did not turn up," Kharge said.

The all-party meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who, according to Kharge, acknowledged a security failure in connection to the Pahalgam terror attack. Kharge said he urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to treat the matter as a serious challenge to ensure such incidents are not repeated.

"Whatever lapse has happened has happened, but in the future we should not let this happen. I told Shah that this should be taken up as a challenge. Everything should be properly arranged," Kharge stated, adding that Shah assured the delegation that steps would be taken to prevent such attacks in the future.

Expressing concern over the breach despite a three-tier security system, Kharge said, "Still, from the perspective of the nation and its unity, we told them that let us all come together and ensure the country라이브 바카라 protection. We also conveyed that we are united to support the government라이브 바카라 decision in this matter."

When asked whether he was satisfied with the government's response, Kharge said, "This is not the time to pinpoint those things. When the situation comes we will tell them, but telling those things now will not be good." He emphasised that now was the time to stand united and not to criticise the government's actions.

Commenting on India's move to keep the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 with Pakistan in abeyance, Kharge questioned the practicality of the decision. "If you (government) decide to withhold water, where will you store it? Do we have such dams? But those questions will come later, not now," he said.
