Amid the controversy over Kunal Kamra's jibe at Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a stand-up comedy show, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials have started demolishing portions of the venue, citing rule violations, as per the reports.
Unicontinental Studio is the venue where Kunal Kamra's stand-up comedy was filmed.
This development came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra should apologise for insulting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Maharshtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has insulted Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde with his jibe and he 'should apologies' for it.
"The 2024 assembly polls results have shown who is a 'gaddar' (traitor) and who is a 'khuddar' (self-respecting). People have put a stamp of approval on Shinde being the true inheritor of (Shiv Sena founder) Bal Thackeray's legacy," said Fadnavis, as quoted by PTI.
He said the people have defeated those who betrayed Bal Thackeray's ideology.
"People have the freedom of satire and comedy. But insulting (a person) deliberately is not allowed. Kamra showed the red book of the Constitution which is carried by Rahul Gandhi. Both have not read the Constitution. He cannot justify his action by showing the book," the CM said.
"The Constitution says when you attack others' freedom, your own freedom is restricted," Fadnavis said.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said no one should violate the law and the Constitution and they should control their speech.
"No one should violate the law and Constitution. The ideologies might differ, but statements should be made in the frame of law. One has to ensure that his remarks don't cause new issues and create law and order problems," said Pawar.
"Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj died in 1680, and we are in 2025 now. The statue has not been installed now. Everyone has a right to speak their mind, but I feel that issues that will raise new questions should not be taken out. Giving employment and industrial investments is our priority now," he adde.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday demanded that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recover damages from Shiv Sainiks who vandalised the studio where stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's show was shot.
Raut alleged that there was "gunda raj" (hooliganism) in the state capital and said Fadnavis was incapable of handling the home department, reported PTI.
"The development is proof that Fadnavis is incapable of handling the home department," he alleged.
During a show titled Naya Bharat, where he discussed contemporary politics at length, Kamra took a jibe at Eknath Shinde for splitting the party and allying with the BJP, calling him a 'traitor'(Gaddar).
Kamra taunted Shinde using a modified version of a Hindi song from the film "Dil To Pagal Hai", eliciting laughter from the audience. However, Kamra did not explicitly name Shinde in the clip.
