Methane Gas Leak At GAIL Plant in MP Triggers Panic, No Casualties Reported

A methane gas power plant in the Raisen district in Madhya Pradesh experienced a leakage. The highly flammable and odourless gas leaked at around 2 AM that has now blown away with the wind.

A state-owned facility of GAIL Methane gas power plant located in the Raisen district in Madhya Pradesh experienced a leakage on Wednesday worrying the residents of the area. According to officials, no casualties were reported from the leakage which occurred in Mandideep Industrial town 35 kilometres away from the state capital of Bhopal. 

In a precautionary move, traffic moving up to the area has been diverted. According to Sub Divisional Magistrate Chandrashekhar Shrivastava, production in all industrial units within the 200 metre periphery has been halted.

Methane, a highly flammable and odourless gas leaked at around 2 AM that has now blown away with the wind. Government officials have been stationed in the area and security arrangements are being made in the plant. 

The chairman of the Mandideep Industrial Association Rajiv Agrawal claimed that it was a level- 3 gas leak. A Grade 3 gas leak is a one that is not hazardous when it is detected and is expected to remain so. 

According to reports, experts have been called on to examine the leak and the leaking bulb has now been repaired. 

The incident is the second in the past two months with an Ammonia gas leak being reported from Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh last month. The incident that was caused due to a valve malfunction had led to the evacuation of the entire neighbourhood. 

Eight people died last month in MP라이브 바카라 Khandwa district after being exposed to methane-like gas that led to their drowning.
