Pahalgam Attack: Over 1,900 People Detained In Growing Crackdown Against Militancy In Kashmir

In the pitch dark night, a large number of security force personnel surrounded the house of Aamir Nazir, a militant in Khasipora area of South Kashmir's Tral.  Their family members were removed from the house and later detained before an IED was set up inside their home to blow it up, said the militant라이브 바카라 relatives.

According to the relatives and neighbours, besides the parents of the militant, his brother and sister were also detained. The action came as part of the stepped-up efforts by the security forces in the aftermath of the Pahalgam militant attack that claimed 26 lives.

Elsewhere in Kashmir, police also conducted searches at the residence of separatist associates and Over Ground Workers ( OGWs) who were accused of providing logistic support to the militants and motivating youth to join their ranks.

Family members of militants whose houses were demolished said that police questioned them about whether they were in touch with them. 

At least 9 houses of militants were blown up in South and North Kashmir while on Saturday the Jammu and Kashmir police conducted searches at 65 places in Srinagar at the residences of OGWs and militant associates in connection of the investigation of several cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to a police official, several people were detained during the raids in Srinagar, while in a similar action in the Budgam district, police arrested two OGWs under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, said that police have detained and questioned 1,900 people across Kashmir since the Pahalgam militant attack. “Not only in Anantnag, detentions and questioning was carried out elsewhere in Kashmir as well,” he added.

IGP said that the militants whose houses were demolished were “one way or the other” involved in the Pahalgam attack. “They were from the same group and operated mostly in South Kashmir,” he added.

IGP said due to a concerted action against militants, their numbers have now reduced to 10-15.

Aamir라이브 바카라 grandmother, Asha Banoo, who sat on a plastic sheet in an open ground along with her other relatives, said that the detained family members had no role in militancy and sought their release.

“What has the family done? The boy chose his own path, and how are we responsible. They have detained even the child's mother. The Police should release them," she said.

The family members said that they have no contact with Aamir since he joined militant ranks last year and recalled that he went to school in April last year, but didn’t return back. According to family members and neighbours, the house was built two years before by Aamir라이브 바카라 father before his son went missing and took up arms. 

After the Pahalgam attack, joint teams of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and paramilitary forces conducted searches across various locations in district Anantnag at the residences and premises of those suspected to be having affiliations with militant outfits.  

IGP Birdi said that action against militant sympathisers has not only been stepped up in Anantnag, but elsewhere in Kashmir as well.

On Saturday, police also conducted searches at 65 places in Srinagar at the residences of OGWs and militant associates in connection with the investigation of several cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

A similar action continued in the Budgam district as well, where police on Sunday arrested two OGWs under the Public Safety Act (PSA) following “actionable intelligence indicating the involvement of the duo” in providing active support to militants operating in the district.

While the investigations in the Pahalgam attack continued, police also recovered arms and ammunition in another South Kashmir area of Kulgam in a joint operation with 1RR and 18 Bn CRPF.

Police arrested 2 militant associates after the recovery of 2 pistols, 25 pistol rounds, 2 pistol magazines from their possession. Extending their operations to North Kashmir as well, Police in Baramulla and Handwara conducted searches at the residences of activists of separatist outfits Jammu & Kashmir National Front (JKNF)  and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) .

A day after Aamir라이브 바카라 house was blasted in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, a police vehicle stopped outside its gate. A group of policemen in black uniforms got down from an armoured vehicle, walked on the path strewn with broken glass shards of window panes, and took out their mobile phones to take pictures of the house.

The policemen quickly took the photos of the partially damaged house to report the condition of the building to their superior officers.

“There was a different team which had come here yesterday. They placed an IED to blow up the house. We are here to find out the extent of damage to find whether any further action is required using explosives,” said a police official.

“It looks like the damage is full and there is no need for further action," he added. IGP Kashmir didn’t rule out the demolition of houses of other active militants in Kashmir.
