Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India라이브 바카라 first vertical lift sea bridge in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, today, marking the occasion of Ram Navami. The new rail bridge, named Pamban, has been completed at a cost of Rs 550 crore.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined PM Modi for the inauguration, while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin was notably absent from the event.
PM Modi라이브 바카라 visit came after his three-day tour to Sri Lanka. On his social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared his experience of witnessing the Ram Setu while the Surya Tilak ceremony was taking place in Ayodhya, calling it a “divine coincidence” on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami.
The bridge, rich in mythological importance, ties into the Ramayana, which recounts the creation of Ram Setu starting from Dhanushkodi, near Rameswaram.
Spanning 2.08 kilometers, the newly inaugurated bridge connects Rameswaram to the mainland. The bridge is equipped with 99 spans and a vertical lift span of 72.5 meters, which can elevate up to 17 meters, allowing large ships to pass unhindered while maintaining train operations. This innovation ensures smooth traffic flow for both rail and maritime services.
The bridge is built to be resilient and future-proof, with stainless steel reinforcements, high-quality protective coatings, and fully welded joints to ensure durability and minimal maintenance. It also includes provisions for dual rail tracks, anticipating future increases in traffic. A special polysiloxane coating has been applied to guard against corrosion, making the structure well-suited for the harsh marine environment.
The original Pamban Bridge, constructed in 1914 by British engineers, served as a cantilever bridge with a Scherzer Rolling Lift span. It was a vital link for pilgrims, tourists, and traders traveling to and from Rameswaram Island for over a century.
In 2019, the Indian government approved the construction of this modern replacement, executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways. The project overcame several challenges, including environmental limitations, logistical issues, and the demanding conditions of the Palk Strait, which includes rough waters and strong winds.
