The Allahabad High Court on Thursday observed that the Union government is the competent authority to decide on matters related to citizenship. The court was hearing a petition, seeking an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi라이브 바카라 alleged British citizenship.

The court granted the Centre more time, until March 24, to submit details of the action taken in the case, as reported by Live Law.

A division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhasali and Justice Jaspreet Singh issued the order in response to a petition filed by BJP Member of Karnataka, S. Vignesh Shishir.

In a previous order, November 25, the court had directed the central government to provide details of any action taken regarding a representation filed with the Union Home Ministry, which alleged that Gandhi holds British citizenship.

However, the government failed to meet the deadline for submitting the response, prompting its counsel to request additional time. The court granted the extension and allowed the response to be filed by March 24, 2025, as confirmed by Ashok Pandey, an intervener counsel in the case.

Earlier, in July 2024, the court had allowed Shishir to withdraw a similar petition and offered him the option to pursue legal remedies under the Citizenship Act. Following this, Shishir submitted two representations to the Union home ministry, seeking the cancellation of Gandhi라이브 바카라 Indian citizenship based on his alleged British citizenship.
