Rescue operations at the flooded coal mine in Umrangsu, Dima Hasao district, entered their seventh day on Sunday, with teams continuing their search for the trapped workers. So far, four bodies have been recovered, while five remain missing. The incident occurred on January 6 when an unexpected rush of water flooded the abandoned mine, trapping nine workers. The first body was found on Wednesday, followed by three more on Saturday.

Rescue operations, assisted by agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with army and navy personnel, have been bolstered with the use of drones to map the affected area.
State Mines and Minerals Minister Kaushik Rai confirmed that dewatering efforts are progressing and are expected to reach completion within the next 36 hours. He explained that the mine라이브 바카라 shaft is connected to several wells, complicating the dewatering process. Currently, twelve pumps are working to drain the water, and significant progress has been made.
Rescue operations, supported by multiple agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and personnel from the army and navy, have been strengthened with the use of drones for mapping the affected area.
NDRF team commander Roshan Kumar Singh reported that the water level inside the mine is gradually receding. “Today marks the seventh day of rescue operations. We are optimistic that the dewatering process will soon show results,” he said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the mine, abandoned 12 years ago, was under the Assam Mineral Development Corporation until three years ago. “It was not an illegal mine. The workers had entered it for the first time to extract coal,” he explained.
The leader of the group of workers has been arrested, and the police are investigating how the workers gained access to the mine.
Minister Rai, who visited the site on Saturday, praised the continuous efforts of the rescue teams. “We are fully committed to locating the remaining workers and bringing closure to this tragedy,” he stated.
The operation continues, with hopes for progress as the water level drops and rescue teams are able to access deeper parts of the mine라이브 바카라 shafts.
