26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana is officially in the custody of the National Investigation Agency. The Pakistani-Canadian businessman, who has been accused of plotting the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, was extradited by the United States to India on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

With Rana set to go on trial for his alleged involvement in the terror attacks which killed over 170 people, a 2011 tweet from Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resurfaced and gone viral.

In 2011, a US court cleared Tahawwur Rana of playing a direct role in plotting the Mumbai attacks, but convicted him of supporting LeT operatives, who were responsible for the 26/11 attack.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Modi said - "US declaring Tahawwur Rana innocent in Mumbai attack has disgraced the sovereignty of India & it is a "major foreign policy setback."

Reactions Pour In After Rana's Extradition

In light of this long-awaited extradition, several reactions have poured in from politicians, police officials and others.

One such reaction was from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Taking to X, the senior BJP leader shared his close call with the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and how Rana being back on Indian soil "brings a sense of closure."

"On the night of 26/11, I was in Mumbai and scheduled to stay at the Taj. But as destiny would have it, I moved to another hotel at the last minute due to a change in plans. The horror of that night, however, has stayed with me forever. I vividly remember watching the NSG operation unfold and a single thought kept echoing in my mind ~ karma will one day catch up with the masterminds of this attack," said Sarma.

"Sixteen years later, seeing Tahawwur Rana back on Indian soil brings not just a sense of closure, but also renewed confidence. With decisive leadership at the helm, those plotting against India will think twice before daring to strike," he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also asserted that Rana's extradition was a part of PM Narendra Modi's efforts to "bring justice to those who attack India's honour, land and people."
