Union Home Minister Amit Shah has responded to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's latest jibe amid the three language row. Addressing the DMK leader, Shah called on Stalin to introduce medical and engineering courses in the state in Tamil.

Amit Shah's response also comes after the Tamil Nadu CM criticised the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speakers.

"Till now, there was no place for the mother tongue in the CAPF recruitment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided that our youth will now be able to write their CAPF exam in all languages in the Eighth Schedule, including Tamil," said Shah, adding that medical and engineering courses in the state should be introduced in Tamil.

What Did MK Stalin Say?

On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister accused the Union government of trying to impose Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states during the National Education Policy implemented in 2020.

The DMK leader further stated that this was part of the BJP's effort to threaten Tamil Nadu's linguistic identity.

"It was the Union Education Minister who provoked us to write this series of letters when we were simply doing our job. He forgot his place and dared to threaten an entire state to accept Hindi Imposition, and now he faces the consequences of reviving a fight he can never win. Tamil Nadu will not be blackmailed into surrendering," Stalin said.

"This is like an LKG student lecturing a PhD holder. Dravidam does not take dictations from Delhi. Instead, it sets the course for the nation to follow," he added further.

What Is The Controversy?

The controversy erupted after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the state will not receive around Rs 2,400 crore in funds unless it adopts the National Education Policy in its entirety.

Under NEP 2020, all states much teach three languages in schools - English, Hindi and the native language.

When it comes to Tamil Nadu, widespread anti-Hindi demonstrations in the 1930s and 1960s prompted the state to adopt a two-language policy which focuses on English and Tamil.
