West Bengal: One Died, Eight Injured As Car Rams Crowd In Kolkata

One person died and eight others were injured after a vehicle ploughed through a marketplace in South Kolkata on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the director of a daily soap and the executive producer of a well-known Bengali entertainment channel were present in the car at the time of the accident.

What Did The Police Say?

Citing police officials, PTI reported that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred at Thakurpukur.

Police are investigating whether the driver was intoxicated.

"The accident occurred around 9:30 AM when the vehicle lost control in the overcrowded Thakurpukur Bazar on Bakrahat Road, knocking down nine pedestrians," he said.

"The vehicle has been seized and will be sent for examination. The driver has been arrested and will be produced in court on Monday," he said, as quoted by PTI.

Siddhanta Das is expected to be produced in court today.

The injured are being treated in the hospital. Kolkata Municipal Corporation sanitation worker and local CPI(M) leader Aminur Rahman died in this accident, as per the reports.
