According to the Wall Street Journal, Bajpayee was one of the several wealthy men willing to provide documents, IDs and references to join an elite Cambridge brothel offering girlfriend experience—the commercial sex ring was based on secrecy and exclusivity, serving wealthy and well-connected clients, including doctors, lawyers and entrepreneurs.
Those charged in the case, known as the Cambridge brothel trial, are alleged to have paid hundreds of dollars an hour for sex and “girlfriend experiences” with predominantly Asian women who were being exploited through sex trafficking, as per the Wall Street Journal.
Anurag Bajpayee is the CEO of a top wastewater treatment firm called Gradient, and was arrested on charges of prostitution in early 2025. Hir name has now been made public after he lost a case seeking anonymity in the matter.
Bajpayee, born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as a prominent figure in the cleantech industry. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2013, he played a pivotal role in transforming Gradiant from its humble beginnings to a global powerhouse with a valuation exceeding $1 billion.
Bajpayee's academic journey started at La Martiniere College in Lucknow, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, which he completed in 2006.
