Varun picked 14 wickets, which included a five-wicket haul in Rajkot, in the recently-concluded five-match T20I series against England. He was also awarded the Player of the Series for his stellar bowling performance. He had also finished as the highest wicket-taker in their previous T20I series in South Africa where the spinner had taken 12 wickets in four matches. He had taken a five-wicket haul in that series as well. Varun has already joined the ODI squad in Nagpur.

India라이브 바카라 updated squad for ODIs against England

Rohit Sharma (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy.

The 33-year-old spinner made his international debut on July 25, 2021, in a T20I match against Sri Lanka. In 18 T20I games, he has claimed 33 wickets with a couple of five-wicket hauls and best bowling figures of 5/17. Till now, he has only played T20Is and this becomes his first call-up to the ODI side.

The late inclusion of the in-form spinner into the 50-over team also triggers speculations over his inclusion in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The Kolkata Knight Riders spinner failed to find a spot in India's initial 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy announced last month. The team already boasts of four spinners: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. The last date to submit final squads for all the teams is February 11.

India, the runners-up to Pakistan in the last edition, will play all their matches in the United Arab Emirates. Rohit Sharma & Co. are in Group A along with Bangladesh (on February 20), designated hosts Pakistan (on February 23), and New Zealand (on March 2).
