Mohammed Shami Receives Death Threat Mail With Demand Of Rs 1 Crore; FIR Filed

An FIR has been registered after star Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami received a mail threatening him with death and demanding Rs 1 crore. Shami's brother Haseeb Ahmed on Monday filed the FIR with the Amroha Police in Uttar Pradesh. (More Cricket News)

According to media reports, the mail has been sent by the ID of one Rajput Sindar. The name 'Prabhakar' was also mentioned in the mail.

Shami is currently playing in the Indian Premier League where he has been struggling with form and his team SunRisers Hyderabad were eliminated on Monday from the race to the Play-offs.

The mail was found on Sunday by Shami's brother Ahmed who logged into the pacer's account to check for important messages as the pacer was busy with the IPL. On logging into the account, Ahmed found the mail with death threat and demand for ransom.

Police are investigating the matter.

An engeneering student, Jigneshsinh Parmar from Gujarat aged 21, was arrested in the case. In a statement, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said, "Parmar is an engineering student. His family claims that he is suffering from mental health issues. Further investigation is in progress." The police had earlier stated that they have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir.
