The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has come out in a very strong defense of the Indian skipper.

For the unversed, Mohamed sparked a social media outage after labeling Rohit Sharma as the most unimpressive captain India has ever, and also fat-shaming the 36-year-old.

"Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had," Mohamed, Congress’ National Spokesperson wrote on X.

She also defended her comments in a couple of follow up posts despite being criticised by cricket fans.

Saikia has strongly hit back and called it an unfortunate remark to make when India are playing in the ICC Champions Trophy, and it could have a massive impact, negatively on the player and the team.

“It's very unfortunate that this kind of remark for our captain (Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma) has come from a person who is on a responsible post, especially at a time when Team India is playing an ICC tournament and the team is all set to play the semi-final match,” Saikia was quoted as saying by ANI.

India will take on Australia in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy on Tuesday, March 4, at the Dubai International Stadium.

The winner of the encounter will play either South Africa or New Zealand in the final on March 9.
