Captain Sneh Rana and the tailender batter Prema batted well under pressure and helped India Women's C win the title of the Senior Women's One Day Challenger Trophy 2025 in the summit clash against India Women's A held at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. (More Cricket News)
India 'C' won the toss and Rana opted to field first at the iconic stadium in Chennai. Shafali Verma & Co. also wanted to bowl first but they were asked to bat first on the surface which has some assistance to the seamers.
Verma and Dhara Gujjar opened the batting in the hope of continuing their dashing opening duo in the final as well. But the captain lost her wicket in the seventh over with a score of 26. KP Choudhary took the first three wickets to put India A on the back foot.
Coming to bat at number seven, MR Magre played a beautiful knock of 75 runs off as many balls to take her team to a respectable total of 239 runs in 50 overs. Arundhati Reddy and Simran Dil Bahadur also added crucial runs in the end.
KP Choudhary took four wickets in the match with one maiden over by conceding just 38 runs. Prema also picked four wickets but conceded 54 runs in her 10 overs.
Chasing a modest target of 240 runs, India C lost opener Tripti Singh's wicket early in the fifth over. But another opener batter Vrinda Dinesh batted well and made 71 runs off just 65 balls with the help of 10 fours.
Riya Chaudhari (32), Henrietta Pereira (40) and Chitra Singh Jamwal (25) also added crucial runs in between. But none of them could stay for long at the crease.
The onus was on captain Sneh Rana when her team needed 19 runs in the last two overs with only two wickets in hand. She hit a six to reduce the runs needed in the 49th over.
With nine runs needed in the last over, Prema took a single on the first delivery. Rana played for a double on the next then took a single on the third delivery with five runs needed on three deliveries.
Prema hit a four to level the game on the fourth delivery then took a single to win the match for India 'C'.
