Describing the details of the event, Thakur said more than 1,350 participants from across 32 states and union territories will take part in seven disciplines at the multi-sport competition. He added that the Games will be a "game-changer" in the quest to improve the status quo of para sports in India, and in identifying and aiding talented athletes with disability.
Thakur wrote on X: "With great joy and satisfaction, I'm pleased to announce that the first edition of Khelo India Para-Games will be held from 10 to 17 December in New Delhi. I am sure that the first edition of the Khelo India Para Games will be a successful one and I extend my best wishes to the para-athletes for the upcoming games."
India para athletes recently returned with a rich haul of medals from the Hangzhou Asian Para Games 2023, where they finished fifth in the overall tally with a record 111 medals, including 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze. The contingent won four medals more than that won in the preceding Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.
