Dier joined Bayern on loan in January last year after a decade-long stint at Premier League side Tottenham.

After meeting the requisite number of appearances to satisfy the clause in the loan contract, it was confirmed that the move would be made permanent at the end of last season.

He signed a deal until June 2025, but has opted not to extend it further.

"We had discussions with Eric about a new contract. He told us that he doesn't want to extend and will leave us," Freund told reporters.

"He's a great guy. We had a great time together. He also felt very much at home here in Munich and at the club. Hopefully, he crowns his time with us with his first title."

Dier has made 45 appearances in all competitions since joining Bayern, making 35 starts.

He has netted two goals in that time, including one in their 3-0 victory over Mainz last Saturday, a win which moved them within touching distance of the Bundesliga title.

Sky Sports reported that Dier has agreed a three-year deal with Monaco and is set to join the Ligue 1 side in July.

Vincent Kompany's Bayern side hold an eight-point lead over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen with three games to go.

They can clinch a record-extending 34th German league title on Saturday with a victory over fifth-placed RB Leipzig.

However, if they fail to win, they can still clinch the title on Sunday if Leverkusen's result at Freiburg on Sunday matches Bayern's.
