The European Qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2026 is all set to kick off, with Matchday 1 taking place on 21 March. The first stage of the European section of the World Cup qualifiers – the group stage – will feature 54 teams in total, and will have home and away games till 31 March.

Matchday 1, 21 March: Three Lions Look For Winning Start Against Albania

The headline event of the first day of Matchday 1 will be the match between England and Albania. The second day of Matchday 1 will see Erlin Haaland lead Norway in a comfortable fixture against Moldova, and Israel and Estonia will play an evenly matched contest. Meanwhile, the Welsh national team will look to secure their second consecutive World Cup spot, after 64 years of international wilderness, facing a mainly domestic-based Kazakhstan squad.

North Macedonia will also look to make their mark against Liechtenstein, after announcing themselves to the world by eliminating Italy in the last tournament. Montenegro and Gibraltar is another fixture, as is Czechia vs Faroe Islands.
