MCI 0-0 AVL (0')
Nearly the perfect start for the visitors! Just 18 seconds on the clock, and Villa get their first goal chance. Marcus Rashford is played through down the left side by Tielamans, and the former Man United forward turns Ruben Dias inside out and shoots towards the far side but sees his shot hit the post and come back. So, so unlcuky.
MCI 0-0 AVL (1')
A comedy of errors from Aston Villa. Ruben Dias finds Omar Marmoush with a fantastic cross-field ball, and the Egyptian tries to cross it towards the goal. His ball is deflected by Ezri Konsa's leg, and it falls to Bernardo Silva down the middle. The Portuguese shoots towards the near post, straight at Emi Martinez, but the Argentinian *somehow* fails to keep it out as it bounces off his body and into the back of the net.
Defensive error? Goalkeeping blunder? Take your pick, Unai Emery.
MCI 1-0 AVL (7')
It's still weird how the ball bounced off Emi Martinez's body and crept inside. The Argentine is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but he does tend to let in the occasional clanger, with six erorrs leading to goal in his Premier League career.
In this case, replays show that Martinez tries to parry the ball instead of trying to catch it, and in the process the ball hit his things and bounced back inside the goal.
Jacob Ramsey tries to run in with the ball, and gets a slight nudge at the back from Ruben Dias and goes down. The English midfielder is surprised as the referee says play on.
VAR halts play and asks the ref to take a look at the incidnet, and Craig Pawson -- after looking at the on-field monitor -- points towards the spot.
What a cool penalty from Marcus Rashford! The forward has an elaborate, stuttering run-up, and then sends Ortega the wrong way. Villa get the equaliser from a very soft penalty.
MCI 1-1 AVL (18')
After an end-to-end opening two minutes, the game has settled down. Aston Villa are happy for the home side to have the lion's share of possession, with Man City having 61 touches in the opponent's third compared to Villa's nine.
No clear cut chances for either side since the penalty, Rogers gets a shot off a long-throw, but that's all for the away side so far.
MCI 1-1 AVL (34')
Four minutes added on by the fourth official at the end of the first half. The home side are trying hard to go ahead right before the break, but Villa defence is holding strong, if not very convincing, at the moment.
MCI 1-1 VIL (45')
It's half-time at the Etihad, and it's one-all at the break. Marmoush tried to get a late attempt on target, but he could only manage to divert the ball behind the Villa goal, which means that Pep Guardiola's men have it all to play for in the next 45 minutes.

Some match stats, courtesy of Premier League:
The second half is underway at Etihad, and both teams have it all to play for in the next 45 minutes.
MCI 1-1 AVL (45')
The hosts have started the second half well. Marmoush is a constant thorn in Villa's side, but it's Nico O'Reilly who fools Rogers and pushes forward. The English midfielder pulls his opponent's jersey back, and gets an automatic booking from the ref.
De Bruyne's free-kick is pin-point, but Villa defend well.
MCI 1-1 AVL (51')
A melee in the midfield leads to Man City breaking forward, and De Bruyne tees up James McAtee with a peach of a delivery. The youngster, kept onside by Matty Cash, tries to lob a shot towards the goal, having spotted Emi Martinez way off his line. However, the ball goes agonisingly wide, and Pep Guardiola can't believe his luck.
MCI 1-1 AVL (60')
Changes for Aston Villa:
Axel Disasi, John McGinn IN
Matty Cash, Jacob Ramsey OUT
Change for Man City:
Jeremy Doku IN
James McAtee OUT
Changes for Aston Villa:
Ollie Watkins, Marco Asensio IN
Marcus Rashford, Amadou Onana OUT
Jeremy Doku goes down the left wing but is crowded out by three Villa defenders. He passes it back to the midfield, and Gundogan tries to play Marmoush through down the right, and the Egyptian finds the back of the net with a nice finish.
No celebration, though, as the stadium knew that it was offside, and the linesman's flag confirms it.
MCI 1-1 AVL (80')
Change for Aston Villa:
Donyell Malen IN
Morgan Rogers OUT
Bernardo Silva is booked, meanwhile, for dissent.
Five minutes added on by the fourth-official. No late chances for either side, but neither side look satisfied with a draw, which really does not do them any good in their pursuit of European football next season. Will we see some late drama?
Both managers -- anxious and fidgety at the touchline -- are certainly hoping so.
MCI 1-1 AVL (90')
And late drama there is! Jeremy Doku creates the chance, beating Axel Disasi with his pace and puts in a fantastic, low cross across the face of the goal. Matheus Nunes, who found himself in the final third, is there to slot it in from close range.
It's pandemonium at the Etihad, as Pep Guardiola punches the air in excitement. Nunes celebrates with his shirt off after scoring his first league goal in two years.
MCI 2-1 AVL (90+4')
Change for Man City:
Manuel Akanji IN
Kevin De Bruyne OUT
The referee blows his whistle, and it's all over at the Etihad! An ulikely winner in Nunes, but City get crucial three points in their Champions League pursuit.
