Manchester City's Champions League campaign ended disappointingly at the Bernabeu, where Kylian Mbappe's hat-trick propelled Real Madrid to a comfortable victory and a spot in the last 16. City, trying to recover from a 3-2 deficit from the first leg, quickly fell behind when Mbappe scored with a lob just four minutes in. Their situation worsened when defender John Stones was injured soon after. Mbappé extended Madrid's lead with a brilliant goal in the 33rd minute and completed his hat-trick with a low shot after the hour mark. City managed to pull one goal back through Nico Gonzalez, but it offered little consolation on a frustrating night for the Premier League champions.
