In their campaign opener, Araijeet Singh Hundal (2nd minute, 24th), Arshdeep Singh (8th), Gurjot Singh (18th, 45th), Sourabh Anand Kushwaha (19th, 52nd), Dilraj Singh (21st) and Mukesh Toppo (59th) scored field goals, while Sharda Nand Tiwari (10th) and Rohit (29th) sounded the board from penalty corner and stroke, respectively.
Japan also registered an equally emphatic win against Chinese Taipei, who are making their fourth appearance in the tournament, in their opener on Tuesday. But South Korea, winners in 2000, lead the five-team Pool A standings thanks to successive wins, against Thailand (6-2) and Chinese Taipei (9-6).
In the 2023 edition, India and Japan were also placed in the same pool. India won the match 3-1 at the Salalah Sports Complex in Salalah, Oman. Expect another India win.
In Pool B, three-time champions Pakistan, the 2012 winners Malaysia and Bangladesh registered one win each, while China lost both matches played so far. Hosts Oman have also lost their opening match.
