It's move 11, and Gukesh has spent nearly half an hour in deep thought, eyes closed, as he carefully considers his next move.
This is the longest either player has taken on a move throughout the entire match, with Gukesh now crossing the one-hour mark on move 11. The time control difference between the two players is now negligible. After this extended period of thought, Gukesh finally plays pawn to g3 and Ding immediately responds with Knight to c5.
After what seemed like an endless wait, Gukesh made a dramatic exit when it was his turn, just to return and drop the move everyone saw coming: Bishop to g2! Classic move, right?
The engines and AI still can’t help but give Ding the tiniest advantage, though.
Gukesh takes a moment, then castles, but Ding wastes no time and pushes his knight forward, putting pressure on Gukesh's queen.
Gukesh is now racing against time, with just half an hour left to make 25 moves and reach the next time control. The game is hanging by a thread.
In a bid to safeguard his pawn, Gukesh plays Rd1, but the engines have sharply shifted in Ding's favor. The evaluation engine now shows a 0.7 advantage, and AI calculations give Ding a 44% chance of winning. The tension is palpable.
